Nonessential retail stores in N.J. to reopen June 15 with limited capacity as coronavirus outbreak slows

Shoppers will be allowed to go back inside most retail stores in New Jersey with restrictions starting June 15 after more than two months of lockdowns to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that nonessential businesses can begin operating at limited capacity as the Garden State enters the second stage of its multi-phase recovery plan during the coronavirus pandemic.

The capacity limits have not been announced by the governor.

Murphy also announced that outdoor dining will be allowed starting June 15, while hair salons and barbershop may resume having customers on June 22. Gyms, libraries, museums, and some government services — such as the DMV — will also be permitted to reopen in “Stage 2,” but he did not announce set dates for those.

“The next big step in our restart and recovery is just two weeks away,” the governor said during his daily coronavirus briefing in Trenton. “We’re ready to begin moving forward. We are ready because this progress is being seen across the state. I firmly believe we are going to stay on track.”

The move comes as New Jersey — home to the second-most COVID-19 deaths and cases — sees it outbreak continue to slow and as the state’s economy suffers widespread unemployment and business losses.

Many retail stores have been closed to customers since March 21 as part of Murphy’s sweeping stay-at-home orders to fight the spread of COVID-19. The governor permitted those stores to reopen for curbside service only beginning May 18.

Essential stores — like supermarkets and home repair — have never closed.

We first wanted to send our gratitude to all of our customers during this trying time, for your business and understanding.  As a business in this environment, it has been very difficult to get the proper personnel to fulfill our customers’ orders.   The unemployment and stimulus checks make it tough for maintaining and the hiring of new personnel. 

As of June 1, 2020, we have started our warehouse, and some of the office support staff back to full-time hours.  The remaining office staff will start back to full-time status over the next couple of weeks.  We are doing our best with the personnel we have, to expedite and fulfill your orders.  Please be patient.  

Until we can hire the proper amount of personnel for our warehouse, orders will be delayed.  A copy of the invoice will be emailed to you once the order has been completed by our billing department.  Any account that picks up an order at our facility must wait until the email is received before coming to the facility.  No Exceptions.

Pennsauken – Continuing with Williams Trading Co’s series on COVID-19, Williams Trading Co shares some quick and helpful tips to help build inexpensive barriers for cash registers and check out areas.

 

The cash register has emerged as the most dangerous place in the store, according to public health and worker safety experts. Every item cashiers touch, scan and bag has been handled by customers and other workers. 

 

Retailers have been stepping up their safety measures as the CDC’s guidance on the virus evolves. In addition to Walmart, stores like Target, Kroger, Whole Foods and others have installed guards at checkout lanes and added social distancing markers in lines. 

Retailers are limiting the number of customers inside the store at one time and are sanitizing checkout stations frequently. Companies are also expanding the use of contact-free payment options so customers don’t have to touch screens or enter their pins.

 

The best practice for adult store owners is to maintain social distancing and install additional safety measures at the cash register in the form of barriers. Eric Feigl-Ding, an epidemiologist and health economist at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, said cashiers “need N95 masks as much as health care workers.” He believes that all stores also need to give their cashiers face shields because many coronavirus carriers are asymptomatic.

 

Help maintain social distance and physical separation while protecting from splashes and sprays with clear plastic barriers. Williams Trading Co. Offers Tips to Brick & Mortar Retailers to Convert Commerce to Curbside Pick-Up During  Openings

Pennsauken – Continuing with Williams Trading Co’s series on COVID-19, Williams Trading Co shares some quick and helpful tips to convert your business to Curbside Pickup as states start to reopen. 

 

While some states or counties might not allow stores to reopen fully, some are allowing stores to reopen with a curbside pick-up model. Adult retail brick and mortar businesses can easily be able to adopt this model for their own use.

First, one of the easiest ways to convert to Curbside is if your business already has a website where customers can order and pay. If possible, assign time slots for pick up, and designate an area where orders are held within the store. When the customer arrives to pick up their order, you can either have them call the store phone, or text their arrival to a designated number – make sure employees ask for the color, make, and model of the customer’s vehicle, just in case you have more than one pickup at a time. 

The best practice for both consumer and store employee safety is to ask that the consumer have their back window or door open so the employee, masked and gloved, can simply place the order in the backseat and avoid contact entirely.

Converting to Curbside Pickup 

  • If you don’t currently have a website, building one can be quick and inexpensive. While there are many platforms available, Shopify offers a free 90 day trial, and pricing is as low as $29/month. The Shopify app once integrated with Inventory Source is fully compatible with Williams Inventory updates.
  • You can link your Shopify site with Inventory Source and load your store inventory onto your Shopify site. The process is quick, easy, and depending on the plan chosen, can be relatively inexpensive. This will make offering customers curbside pickup much easier.   • Shopify offers a special app called Store Pickup and Collect  – Store Pickup provides your customers with a seamless pickup option that integrates with your store’s existing shipping and styling. It has a 14-day free trial, and costs $11/month.

  3. Social distancing for employees
  4. Adjust store hours of operation, as necessary, to support social distancing efforts by limiting store traffic.

Williams Trading Co. Announces A Staged Soft Open Plan Effective May 4-11th

Pennsauken – Williams Trading Co. is pleased to announce a soft opening plan beginning the week of May 4th. Effective Monday, May 4, 2020, Williams Trading will be accepting drop shipment orders for it’s e-commerce customers. As of Monday, May 11th, 2020, all other customers such as Brick and mortar, and other sales channels will be able to place new orders.  “The purpose of staging order flow is to allow a smooth transition, as states come back online with retailers. This will also allow us to plan for labor build up and support during start-up.” says Rich Pyne VP e-commerce.

 

We will start with a limited warehouse staff on Monday, May 4th and stage a “soft open” as we have enacted strict safety, sanitary and social distancing guidelines for our entire staff to follow. During this staged soft opening, the following terms and conditions will be followed for all orders.

 

Terms and conditions during our soft opening plan:

  • Stage I – All E-commerce customers can begin to place orders Monday, May 4th.
  • Stage II – All Brick and mortar customers and other sales channels can begin to place orders on Monday, May 11th.
  • Orders will be fulfilled on a first-in, first-out basis.  All orders will be prioritized based on these guidelines. With limited staff, orders will possibly be delayed.
  • All orders must be placed using our Web orders system on our website. We are eventually working to have a paperless invoicing system. All customers will have the opportunity to have their invoice or packing slip emailed, faxed or available on our website.
  • Effective immediately, No “add-ons” to orders will be allowed due to excessive handling.
  • All drop ship customer service issues should be addressed in email to Richard Pyne at richp@williams-trading.com. No Phone calls at this time. 

 

“Our goal is to process all orders, and ship all orders complete each day. Due to the unpredictable nature of this soft opening, and unknown demand, this might not be possible. COVID 19 Stress and Exercise Tips While at Home

As we now go into a full month of being home are you looking for ways to stay active while social distancing? Regardless of your level of fitness, getting regular exercise is an important mental and physical benefit while staying at home. Review these tips on how to exercise at home along with tips on dealing with stress from the CDC. Instead of staying glued to the news broadcasts, take some time for yourself along with a mental and physical health break.

You’d be surprised at how many household objects work really well as fitness equipment. Who needs a Stairmaster when you have your own stairs? 

  1. Use a chair to do knee curls. A folding chair or dining chair can be used for a variety of great exercises.
  2. Strengthen your legs by doing wall sits. Count to 30. Repeat.
  3. Do calf lifts on your stairs or front doorsteps.
  4. Make your own dumbbells. Fill a gallon-sized milk container (8.5 pounds) or a 72-ounce bottle of detergent (5 pounds) with water and do arm curls. You can also put all those cans of soup to good use. Or lie on the floor and lift your dog (depending on its size and willingness to cooperate).
  5. Perform standing push-ups against a wall to strengthen your upper body.

Healthy multitasking

There’s no need to set aside a special time for physical fitness. Instead, build these exercises from Self magazine into your normal daily routines. And you don’t need any equipment: your body weight provides the resistance.

  1. Crank out some squats while you’re talking on the phone.
  2. Complete a set of plankups while you’re waiting for the water to boil for your tea.
  3. Try a few standing oblique crunches while watching a training video for work.
  4. Ask a child to read you a story (if not in person, then Skype or Facetime work, too) while you do some lunges.
  5. Rock out some high knees while enjoying your favorite Netflix show.
